Andorra la Vella will become the headquarters of the 14th International Winter Road Congress held in 2014. It is the first time this event will be organized in the Pyrenees and it will be held from 4-7 February at the Conference Centre in the Principality's capital (Andorra la Vella). 1,500 people are expected to participate in this congress, most of which hold institutional positions or are senior executives from the leading companies that work with winter road maintenance and the infrastructure sector.
The 2014 edition will take place under the slogan "Road safety in a context of economic constraints" and it will address road safety and sustainable development taking into account climate change and economic hardship. In addition, the 14th Congress will address specific areas related to road tunnels and bridges in winter conditions.
During the four-day meeting, a wide range of presentation topics will be addressed to encourage the exchange of knowledge about winter roadways among countries that experience a severe climate. There will also be an area with stands for the visitors.
The World Road Association (PIARC), the event's organizer, sets up congresses dedicated to winter road maintenance every four years in one of its member's country. It's objective is to present and exchange ideas related to any recent development and challenge related to winter safety on the roads. Presentations are given by people who oversee roads, who are familiar with their functionality, who carry out research, and who represent worldwide products and equipment.
