1st TYROSAFE workshop |

The first TYROSAFE workshop will be held during the 6th Symposium on Pavement Surface Characteristics (SURF) in Portoro¾, Slovenia on Wednesday October 22nd 2008 from 13:30 till 18:00. During this workshop entitled "policies for skid resistance, rolling resistance and noise on roads" the following questions will be treated: what are the benefits of the policies? Do the policies serve their purpose? How satisfied are the stakeholders with the current policies? Are there benfits for making common European policies? Would your country accept an obligatory use of a common and single friction device as foreseen in 2020? If yes, are there special conditions?
The workshop addresses people involved in making policies and working with them. If you are one of these people, we are looking forward to seeing you in Portoro¾! |

Start of Tyrosafe project |

The FP7 Coordinated Action Tyrosafe (Tyre and Road Surface Optimisation for Skid resistance and Further Effects) started on July 1st. This 1.16 M€ project will not only focus on the road surface but also on tyres and on the interaction between the road surface and tyres. Tyrosafe will run for two years and has 7 partners (arsenal research, BAST, FEHRL, LCPC, Rijkswaterstaat, TRL and ZAG).

FEHRL Secretary General spoke at the SATC opening session |

Steve Phillips made a plenary address during the opening session of the 27th Southern African Transport Conference and Exhibition (SATC), which was helt in Johannesburg, South-Africa from July 7th until July 11th, 2008. Steve's speech was entitled "Building Partnerships for Road Transport Research" and was acclaimed by SA's Transport Minister Jeff Radebe, who was also conference patron.
