During its last meeting, held virtually on the 18 and 19 June 2020, the FEHRL General Assembly welcomed the PDW Central Laboratory Cyprus as a new FEHRL Member.

The Central Laboratory is a part of the Laboratory Sector of the Department of Public Works, operating under the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Works and is the main state laboratory for construction materials. The principal work of the Central Laboratory is the testing of construction products in accordance with standard test methods mainly as part of the quality control of materials incorporated in governmental construction projects. The Central Laboratory is divided into four sections namely Aggregates, Asphalt, Concrete and Soil, of which most testing methods have been accredited to ISO 17025.

Officers of the Central Laboratory are the nominated representatives of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works and the Director of the Department of Public Works in various Technical Committees of the CEN, the Cyprus Organisation for Standardisation (CYS) and others.

Subsequently, the Central Laboratory is responsible for preparing and proposing technical specifications for construction contracts and monitoring the implementation.
