New KEDE Director joins FGA and participates in his first meeting
Nikolaos Malakatas, new Director of Greek FEHRL member KEDE, takes part in his first FEHRL General Assembly (FGA) on 3-4th June 2013.
Nikolaos (Nick) Malakatas was appointed last February as Director of KEDE (the Greek Central Laboratory of Public Works), following his service since December 2010 as Director of Design and Studies of Road Projects, in the Greek Ministry of Development, Competitiveness, Transports, Infrastructures and Networks (MDCTIN).
Dr Malakatas obtained in 1977 his Civil Engineering Diploma from the National Technical University of Athens and subsequently, in 1981, he became a Dr Ing of the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussees (ENPC) in Paris. He spent most of his career within the Greek Administration, initially as Checker and Principal Engineer in the Bridge, Tunneling and Road Studies Departments and later as Head of Department for Motorway Concession Projects.
Nikolaos has also participated in PIARC’s activities (1991-1996 National Secretary, 2004-2007 member of TC 4.4 (Approaches to cost-effective bridge management), 2008- member of CT D.3 (Inspection and condition assessment etc.), as well as in CEDR as new member of the Technical Group Standardisation (2013 - ).
Since 1990 a National Delegate for Greece, he became the Chairman of CEN/TC250/SC1 “Structural Eurocodes – Actions on Structures” in 2008. He has also taught for several years courses on Bridge and Technical Works Design.
As the new Director of KEDE in a critical and transitional phase for the Greek Administration, he is aspiring in the revival and modernisation of this important Institution and hopes to become an active member of FEHRL.
