Damage Identification in Bridges through Dynamic Montitoring

Date: Monday, 12-13th March 2018

Venue: University of Bologna, Viale Risorgimento 2, 40136 Bologna.

A two-day workshop has been organised to inform bridge owners and technical staff, civil engineers, academic researchers, contractors and wider audience about the SHAPE Infravation project outcomes.

Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is a key issue for the management of the transport infrastructure. Increasing traffic demands need to be accommodated by continuously ageing infrastructure all over the world.

The SHAPE project (Safety, HAzard and Poly-harmonic Evaluation) focuses on structural health monitoring (SHM) to identify presence and location of damage in bridges. Shifts in the recorded frequency spectra, adjusted for environmental conditions can be used to characterise the extent and severity of damage.

The project is aiming to deliver an easy to use Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 7 solution, able to identify condition of bridges. The developed SHAPE box records acceleration under traffic loading on bridges. The device records signal for user defined length and sample rate and uploads to an online server (http://winetsrl.serveftp.com/v2/index.php).

Custom-built software is under development and will be used in future versions of the SHAPE boxes to process data and evaluate probability of damage.

The workshop will cover developments of the SHAPE project, key bridge management issues, hands on demonstration in DICAM laboratory and field visits to two bridges. Participants will be able to share experience and ideas across countries and see the technology at work under operational conditions.

Participation to the workshop is free of charge but registration to the event is necessary before February 28th here.
