NATIONAL ROAD RESEARCH CENTRES IN PARTNERSHIP

First TRA brings together all major stakeholders in the future of European Road Transport

The first Transport Research Arena (TRA) was launched today in Göteborg by Ingemar Skogö, the Director-General of the Swedish Road Administration.  European Commissioner Potocnik added his wholehearted welcome of  the joint initiative of ERTRAC, CEDR and the Commission and promised greater support for Road Transport Research.  The Chairman of CEDR (Conference of European Directors of Roads), Jón Rögnvaldsson, and  Chairman of ERTRAC, Rudi Kunze responded by demonstrating the continued aligment within the road transport research community.

Held over four days,  the Transport Research Arena is the first of a planned bi-annual event to bring together all the partners in the road transport sector.   The theme of the event is based closely on the ERTRAC Strategic Research Agenda which created a road-map for multi-sectoral research aimed at the major road transport challenges.

Rudi Kunze, the Chairman of ERTRAC, described the major societal and economic imperatives faced within the road transport and outlined some of the main themes of the research needed.  Encompassed in the newly published ERTRAC Research Framework (http://www.ertrac.org),  ERTRAC’s priorities include freight transport, urban mobility, intelligent vehicle and infrastructure, safety, sustainable energy and competitive production.  More information can be found at http://www.traconference.com.
