Overview of ECOROADS Final Conference in May 2017

On 10th May 2017, the Final Conference of the ECOROADS project took place in Brussels, under the theme of “Roads & Tunnels Safety: management by establishment of a common enhanced approach in road infrastructure and tunnel safety”. This event, which gathered some 60 participants, was an opportunity to present their final conclusions on Roads & Tunnels Safety.

The first session was dedicated to the general presentation of the project and its positioning within the EU safety priorities, in particular in relation to the revision of the Road Infrastructure Safety Management and Tunnel Safety Directives.

The second session gave the speakers the opportunity to explain further the ECOROADS approach, guidelines and recommendations, with the definition of the joint safety operations carried out during the project, the common procedures and the final report of the field tests.

The final part of the conference gave the audience the opportunity to discuss with the project’s members about the project conclusions and recommendations.

The general objective of the ECOROADS project is to overcome the barrier established by the formal interpretation of the two Directives 2008/96/EC (on road infrastructure safety management) and 2004/54/EC (on tunnels), that in practice do not foresee the same Road Safety Audits/Inspections to be performed on open roads and in tunnels. As a partner in the ECOROADS project, ERF has played an active  role throughout the project’s entire lifespan and even participated in selected on-site inspections.

You can find the presentations of the conference here.
